KAMAKHYA TEMPLE

कामाख्याये वरदे देवी नीलपववतावासिनी |

Kamakhya Temple is one of the most famous and revered Hindu temples in India, located in Guwahati, Assam. It sits atop the Nilachal Hill, overlooking the Brahmaputra River. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Kamakhya, a form of Shakti and is one of the oldest of the 51 Shakti Peethas, which are important pilgrimage sites in the Shaktism tradition of Hinduism.

UMANANDA

Umananda Temple is a famous Shiva temple located on Peacock Island in the middle of the Brahmaputra River in Guwahati, Assam. It was built by Ahom King Gadadhar Singha in the 17th century. Peacock Island is known as the smallest inhabited river island in the world. It’s believed that Lord Shiva meditated here, and the island is also called Bhasmachal because of the myth that Shiva reduced Kamadeva to ashes here.

Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra

Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra, located in Panjabari, Guwahati, is a premier cultural institution dedicated to preserving and showcasing the rich heritage of Assam and Northeast India. Named after the revered medieval saint, poet, and reformer Srimanta Sankardev, this vibrant complex serves as a hub for art, literature, music, and traditional performances.
The Kalakshetra houses a cultural museum, library, open-air theatre, and artists' village, offering visitors an immersive experience into the diverse traditions of the region. As one of Northeast India's largest cultural congregations, it stands as a testament to Assam’s artistic legacy and serves as a dynamic platform for academic and cultural exchanges.

Assam State Zoo

Located in the heart of Guwahati, the Assam State Zoo cum Botanical Garden is the largest zoo in Northeast India, spread across 432 acres within a lush reserved forest. Established in 1957, it is home to a diverse array of animals, birds, and reptiles, representing numerous species from across the globe.
The zoo plays a vital role in conservation and education, housing rare and endangered species such as the one-horned rhinoceros, clouded leopard, golden langur, and hoolock gibbon.
